Tau Beta and The Children’s Center

Since 2004, Tau Beta’s main area of focus has been The Children’s Center of Detroit.

For more than 86 years, The Children’s Center of Detroit has empowered children and families to overcome mental and behavioral challenges, cope with developmental disabilities and has helped children in foster care find their forever home. The Children’s Center is a beacon of hope that allows children to heal, thrive, and triumph over their tragic circumstances.

By offering volunteer and fundraising assistance, it is Tau Beta’s desire to further the mission of The Children’s Center, which is “To help children and families shape their own future.” Our continued support for The Children’s Center helps to set the pace in children’s services and provide resources to thousands of families in Southeastern Michigan.

Tau Beta members created and help supply and maintain The Center’s Boutique. We donate baby baskets for the children of the Teenaged Parents Program, provide a launch package for kids aging out of foster care in the YASS program, created and plant The Children’s Center’s beautiful garden, provide turkeys for the families of autistic children at Thanksgiving, donate gifts to and staff the Holiday Boutique at Christmas. Our Tau Beta Juniors assist in our drives and host various events throughout the year with the children including helping create crafts for their caregivers for Mother’s and Father’s Day.

Because of the financial investment, in-kind donations and volunteer leadership from Tau Beta, the traumatic beginning that thousands of children experience doesn’t need to be the end of their story. Helping children and families shape their own futures.

The Children’s Centeris home to many specialized clinical services. They lead the way in working with children who struggle with behavioral, emotional, educational, intellectual and developmental challenges or may have experienced trauma.

The Children’s Center treats the whole child, looking at more than a single issue so they can provide the best, most comprehensive integrated care. They examine barriers in the home, school and community, working with the family who raises them and the organizations that support them.
